12 for 12 – 9. Go on a Real Vacation

We’re well into 2012 now. I should finish my 12 for 12. I’ve only been prevented from doing so by a really fast-paced schedule so far this year – one that I’m trying to adjust to as sort of a new normal.

I was able to take Kymra with me on a trip to the East Coast last week. We had a couple of meetings in Boston and then moved on to Washington, DC for a couple of days of marching the marble with a visit to each of the members of our Oregon delegation. It was a packed week without a lot of down time, but it was really great to have Kymra along.

It was actually the week following our anniversary. I was able to unload some air miles to pull it all together. You know, nothing says “I love you” like a business trip.

We’re able to do things like this from time to time and I’m really grateful for it.  Even though these times aren’t loaded up with a lot of activity, it is a little down time for Kymra and she is quite amazing company.

Getting away alone with Kymra (on a vacation, not a meeting packed trip) is high on my list of things to do this year. In the last couple of years we’ve been able to do some fun things with the kids in tow. It has been great. In 2010, we were able to go to Disneyland in conjunction with the Foursquare Convention. In 2011 Kymra patched together some crazy deals that allowed us to go again when Chika was here with us. Those opportunities are really wonderful but it is almost funny how exhausted one is when returning from a vacation as such.

This year, it’s just going to be with Kymra. In fact, I bought an incredible deal to a resort in Cabo on one of the daily deal sites this last year. I’m going to pack the golf clubs and we’re going to get on a plane without kids and we’re not going to come back for seven days. I don’t know when quite yet, but in 2012. It’s one of my 12 for 12 and might be my favorite of them all.

  1. Yes Mike, I highly recommend a little get away. Hai and I are in Hawaii now and we are reminded once again that only do we love each other so much but we really really like each other too! What a blessing!
